SAN JOSE, Calif., Oct. 4 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- ZiLOG(R), Inc.
(Nasdaq: ZILG), a leading provider of Flash microcontrollers, universal remote
control and ARM-based solutions, announced today that its motor control family
of Flash MCUs has been named a winner in the Electronics Engineering and
Product World (EEPW) 2006 Innovation Awards for China Embedded System
Products. This award is part of EEPW's 2006 Embedded System Series Editor's
Choice Awards. The award is the third accolade for the Z8 Encore! Motor
Control (MC) family, which also won Control Engineering magazine's Editors'
Choice Award for 2005 and was named one of EE Times' "Ultimate Products" for
the third quarter of 2005. ZiLOG also won EEPW's Innovation award in 2004 for
its Z8 Encore! XP(R) product family.
Published two times per month, EEPW is a joint venture between IDG and
ISTIC (Institute of Scientific and Technical Information of China) and is one
of the most prestigious and widely-read Chinese electronic trade publications,
covering industry issues and news, embedded systems, components, power supply,
wireless, consumer electronics, test and measurement and electronic design
automation (EDA).
Throughout 2006, EEPW's editors evaluated products based on criteria such
as innovation, technological advancement and market impact. The ten final
winners were chosen and presented with their awards during a ceremony held on
September 12 in Shenzhen, China as part of the Autumn Microprocessor Forum
China. According to Ying Wang, Managing Editor of EEPW, the Z8 Encore! MC
caught the eye of the editorial team because of "its unique integrated feature
set, which brings components such as an optimized PWM module, a fast 2.5ums
A/D converter with a time stamp, an operational amplifier, and multiple
communication engines, "on chip." In addition, the advanced phase lock loop
(PLL) routines created by ZiLOG for the Z8 Encore! MC tie into these on chip
features, help free up valuable CPU resources and reduce the unit's overall
bill of materials and conserve energy."
"For a widely read and respected Chinese engineering publication such as
EEPW to nominate and select our motor control family of MCUs for this award is
a great testament to the efforts of our entire team," commented LM Wang,
ZiLOG's regional vice president, Asia/Japan. "We are especially happy about
the recognition coming from China, a country we have been very committed to
and continue to invest in. It is a validation of the growing success and
traction of our product roadmap and the expanding array of applications that
it serves."
The Z8 Encore! MC family, launched in October 2005, targets motor control
applications, including Brushless DC (BLDC) and AC Induction motor control
sectors. It has already generated a great deal of interest and success in
these markets, resulting in a number of significant design wins. Further
